Grindhouse! We discuss the new Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double feature: "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof". These movies feature such talent as Zoe Bell, Josh Brolin, Rose McGowan, Freddy Rodriguez, Kurt Russell, Tracie Thoms, and Bruce Willis. Plus the tank team covers Exploitation Theater 101, including a look at some classic genres and our favorites.

In the 1960s and 1970s there was a long list of exploitation films, each trying to coax a large audience to buy tickets. They would draw in the crowds, or exploit them, in about the same way as a circus side show. The theater bosses would keep expenses down by running the reels of movie film far too many times, leaving the customers watching scratched and damaged movies sometimes even with missing scenes. Grindhouse takes this era into the 21st century. The scratches and flaws become art itself. Rodriguez and Tarantino totally pull it off. The B-movie becomes cutting edge.
